Our Honeymoon

Planning our Honeymoon

Trying to figure out where to go on your honeymoon is no easy task. We hadn’t traveled together before getting married so we didn’t really know what each other liked at this point. We weren’t quite sure how adventurous to get or if just relaxing would be too boring. It’s hard to know what will work best or what you’ll want to do starting your new life together. Planning the wedding was already pretty busy and on top of that Melanie had just graduated college and we were both starting our careers and life outside of the homes we grew up in. We remember coming up with some cool places we could go halfway around the world but ended up deciding that we wanted our honeymoon to be a time where we could just relax and be together. The adventure would be the rest of life. So we decided to go to Maui. We both had never been to that specific island before but we heard good things so we’d get to experience it together for the first time, have a relaxing time, and the ease of not leaving the country or having to deal with a 24+ hour travel time.

On Our Honeymoon

We were gifted a ton of Marriott points to use on our honeymoon so we got to stay at Marriott’s Wailea Beach Resort. The resort was under construction which was both good and bad. It meant that the resort was virtually empty but also meant that about 60% of the restaurants weren’t available at the resort. This was a fine trade-off for us. I think I’d way rather prefer more space and less crowd than more places to eat especially since it’s fun to go out to dinner or leave the resort at times. When we first arrived in our room we were greeted with a nice chocolate welcome, a bottle of champagne, and a kind note. We even had a good view of the ocean through some palm trees. The room was fairly dated but that was getting phased out with the construction that was happening. The rooms now, look super nice! For most of our honeymoon, we spend enjoying the sun, swimming in the infinity pool, snorkeling in the ocean, and EATING. We love food so we pretty much we’re always looking for our next delicious meal. Overall it was a great time to just be together, learn about each other in an environment where we had zero places to be and zero things to do. Looking back, we probably would have done the whole trip a lot different but that’s because we’ve learned and grown together. That’s the cool part about being married is that you get to learn new things and grow closer together forever.

After the Honeymoon

I think most every married couple just wants to go back to their honeymoon. Where there wasn’t a care in the world. Where everything felt perfect. You were deeply in love. And what I’d say to that, is what’s stopping you? Stop wishing and start creating your Honeymoon where ever you are at. All it takes is for you to decide to be a little more carefree, share your affection for each other like you did when you first got married, plan an adventure, dress up together and go get a nice meal. Being on a Honeymoon is a state of mind, not a location. It might take more active thought to get there than before but it’s always available. So I’d encourage you to go on a Honeymoon together this week. Even if that means enjoying some Netflix together.
